Shanghai Technical Service Platform of Genetically Modified Organism & Food Safety
Shanghai Technical Service Platform of Genetically Modified Organism & Food Safety (herein referred to as the Platform) is one of the first technical service platforms formally authorized by the Shanghai Municipal Government. It was funded by the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission with special funding for public technical service platforms in 2010. The primary research institute responsible for the management and operation of the Platform is Shanghai Jiaotong University, which was joined by Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
Mission:
The mission of the Platform is to become a world-class platform for GMOs and food safety technical services. Although being a Shanghai based platform, it will provide technical services to the whole country while adopting international standards. The services provided will include novel genes and materials for the development of GMOs, molecular Characterization of GMOs and food safety analysis, and technical support for governmental decision making concerning food supply and food safety issues.
Services:
Analysis of gene functions and biological effects: mutant construction, gene cloning, and –omics analysis including genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.
GMO detection and biosafety evaluation: GMO contents analysis, molecular characterization of GMOs, and evaluation of environmental effects of GMOs.
