The number of mainland Chinese scientists on the list continues to soar, from 636 (10.2%) in 2019 to 770 (12.1%) this year. In 2019, the mainland of China has replaced the UK as the second largest "highly cited scientists" region. In 2020, mainland China will still rank second.
The number of scientists selected by the Chinese Academy of Sciences ranked second in the world, and Tsinghua University rose from 19th last year to 9th this year, ranking among the top 10. University of science and technology of China, Peking University and Zhejiang University are also at the top of the list in 2020.
