Dong Zhicheng graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University with a bachelor's degree in biochemical engineering in 1996 and a doctor's degree in genetics from Institute of plant physiology and ecology, Shanghai Academy of life sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003. From 2004 to 2008, he conducted postdoctoral research in Nina Fedoroff Laboratory of Pennsylvania State University. From 2008 to 2011, he conducted postdoctoral research in Judith bender Laboratory of Brown University. From 2012 to 2017, he successively served as researcher of South China Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, deputy director of molecular analysis and genetic improvement center of South China Botanical Garden, and deputy director of Key Laboratory of molecular analysis and genetic improvement of South China agricultural plants, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 2018 to now, Professor of School of life sciences, Guangzhou University, deputy director of molecular genetics and evolution innovation research center.
Mainly engaged in plant gene expression regulation and leguminous plant development research. It includes the regulation of RNA synthesis in plant, the processing of recombinant plant microRNA in vitro, the interaction between DNA methylation / histone methylation and small RNA, and the establishment of leguminous flower pattern. The work has been published in nature plants, proc Natl Acad SCI USA, plant physics and other international authoritative journals. Two of them were cited more than 700 times and 300 times respectively. An article was rated as a must read article by faculty of 1000.
He has been the invited editor in chief of transcriptomics and RNA SEQ published by caister Academic Press, and the reviewer of nature plants, molecular plant, plant physiology, Journal of integrated plant biology, etc. Four graduate courses, including "system biology", "genomics and bioinformatics", and four undergraduate courses, including "the art of gene" and "Life Science in post industrial society", are taught.
