报告题目:

Can Heterotrimeric G Proteins Help Feed the World?

研究简介:

Given the imminent food crisis that humanity will face in the next 50 years, crop yield enhancement is of paramount importance. Among all foods of plant origin, the Poaceae family, with members such as rice, wheat, maize, sorghum, barley, oats, rye and millet occupies a preeminent place in feeding humanity. Heterotrimeric G proteins are important signalling molecules connecting plasma membrane receptors with cytoplasmic effectors. In animals, G proteins convey signals in a plethora of important processes including perception of light, smell, hormones and neurotransmitters while in plants they have been implicated in developmental processes controlling leaf shape, stomatal density, lateral root formation as well as germination responses to glucose, and hormones such as gibberellins, brassinosteriods and abscisic acid. In this talk I will discuss the important role that G-proteins play in plant defence and the recently established link between G-protein and yield in rice.
