Professor George Coupland holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Edinburgh, UK. He has worked in Cambridge University and John Innes Centre. He is now the director of the Plant Breeding Institute of Max Planck Institute.    
George's research team has carried out systematic research on plant reproductive development, especially plant response to light and temperature changes, regulation of flowering, and molecular mechanism of flowering in annual and perennial plants. It has creatively revealed that plant anthocyanin molecule is FT protein, and the action network of age pathway mir156-spl15 regulating plant flowering. The papers have been published in nature, science, cell and other journals for many times, and the total number of citations is more than 30000. He is currently an academician of the German Academy of Sciences, a foreign academician of the American Academy of Sciences, a member of the European Union, a member of the Royal Society of the United Kingdom, and a member of the Royal Society of Belgium.  
From 1995 to 2006, Professor George Coupland proved that zinc finger transcription factor CONSTANS gene is the key factor to promote long day flowering of Arabidopsis thaliana, and systematically studied the regulatory network of CONSTANS gene. The relevant research results were published in cell, nature, science and other journals, and several core papers were cited more than 5000 times; from 2005 to 2009, FT was proved to be the key factor to promote long day flowering of Arabidopsis thaliana Protein is a plant anthocyanin that scientists have been looking for, and has carried out in-depth research on the transport mechanism of this protein. Relevant research papers have been published in science and other journals, and he cited nearly 2000 times. From 1997 to now, he has carried out in-depth research on the epigenetic regulation mechanism of plant flowering, revealing a possible conserved mir156-spl-mir172 in annual and perennial plants- The related research results have been published in science, nature, developmental cell, PNAs and other journals, with nearly 1000 citations; from 1999 to now, we have carried out systematic research on the molecular mechanism of plant sensing rhythm changes, and systematically studied the function of rhythm factors such as gigantea, and published papers in developmental cell, plant cell, EMBO J and other journals, he cited more than 1000 times.
